Silverknowes Vale v Redhall BOS                        0-3
30th July 2007 Silverknowes Playing Fields

An unfortunate result for Silverknowes in their first game, but a worthwile exercise. The players would have learned a lot from playing the first game. The game started off well with some neat tidy passing from Hildersley, Stewart Manson and Stuart Buckley creating some space down the right a couple of times and getting the balls in the box, only for our strikers to be outjumped and outmuscled. The height in the sides or lack of it in the Silverknowes side was a telling factor for most of the game. Redhall were creating space for themselves down the flanks a number of times but with no real final ball for the strikers to test Mason in goal. Silverknowes almost took the lead when Stewart Manson beat two defenders and fed in Scott Manson only for a Redhall defender to get back and nick the ball off his toe before pulling the trigger.

HT 0-0

The second half started with Silverknowes making three changes and also a change of formation to a 4-4-2 from a 3-5-2. A couple of balls over the top of the Redhall defence nearly presented, Gardner, Gallagher and Mathieson opportunties. Redhall scored soon after though,  with a cross in to the penalty area, Scott and Mason getting into a mixup and leaving the Redhall striker with an easy tap in to the empty net. Redhall should have made it 2-0 shortly after but blasted wide from the edge of th box when just the goalkeeper to beat. Stewart Buckley and Stewart Manson were getting involved in everything in the middle of the park, but just lacking options upfront. Three more changes were made by Silverknowes and they conceded the second seconds after, with Gallagher getting caught out on the left side and the Redhall striker easily cutting back for his strike partner to clip the ball past Mason. The third goal from Redhall was a 25 yard cracker, after the ball was half cleared from a corner, the Redhall midfielder unleashed a powerful strike into the roof of the net. Silverknowes continued to ask questions of the Redhall defence and should have pulled back a couple of goals, with Mathieson doing well to create space for himself before shooting over the bar and a good cross in the box for Horlor to head past from close range. The game unfortunatley turned nasty with only a couple of mintues to go, when a Redhall trialist lunged in a shocking two foot tackle on Dickson, luckily seeing it coming and able to get out the way. The Redhall player then reacting with a 'Daniel Son' style karate kick at Cunningham before launching himself at Cunningham on numerous occasions. It turned into a 22 man fracas and the referee sensibly called a hault to the game in the end. All in all a good run out for everyone and we can only learn and improve from this experience.
