Silverknowes Vale v Watt Star 3-3 6th October 2007 Seafield A cracker of a game, with 6 goals, 3 sent off, several bookings and a penalty. Silverknowes took the game to Watt Star early on and Mathieson was causing lots of problems on their right hand side and was no surprise the opening goal came from that area. Mathieson, sprinted down the left before beating the full back several times, he then put in an inch perfect cross for Taylor to nod in his second goal in as many games at the back post. The second was not that far away, when some great battling from Scott Manson on the half way line allowed him to put Taylor through, who looked yards offside, to his amazement he wasnt flagged offside and he contiuned to power to the Watt Star goal before lifting a looping shot over the keeper in the net from 30 yards. It looked like at this stage how many would Silverknowes get, as they looked dangerous everytime they came forward, with Watt Star not offering anything upfront, until the game turned on its head with half an hour played. The referee sent off Steven Buckley who he adjudged to have committed two yellow card offences within 10 minutes of each. This was very harsh on Silverknowes, who then had to re-shuffle the pack. Watt Star encouraged by the man advantage started to get into the Silverknowes half an cause problems. They did pull a goal back just before half time, when a freekick was floated in and the tall Watt Star centre forward cushioned his header down to his strike partner for a simple tap in past Mason from 6 yards. HT 2-1 The second half started off quite scrappy with Silverknowes hitting on the break, becuase of the man extra Watt Star had. Mason had to be lively a couple of times when dangerous crosses came in from the right. Silverknowes then restored their two goal advantage when there appeared little danger with Munro on the ball 25 yards out. He then hit a looping shot over the keeper into the top corner. Munro and Scott Manson were both each then sent through on goal in quick succession, only for both to hit their shots wide of the target. Silverknowes then suffered another setback when the impressive Mathieson had to be withdrawn injured with 20 minutes to go, much to the delight of Watt Star. Minutes later Watt Star were reduced to 10 men also, when thier full back was sent off for his second bookable offence. This seemed to rejuvenate Watt Star who then pressed the game from then on in. Silverknowes were holding on and defending well. It looked like being a good win for Silverknowes until the referee awarded a penatly to Watt Star with 5 minutes remaining. The referee saw a handball in the box after a bit of head tennis from a corner. The Watt Star player despatched the penalty into the corner and gave his team hope of rescueing something from the game. Watt Star completed their comeback when deep into stoppage time Mason was pulled up for holding the ball in his hands for more than six seconds. An indirect freekick was given in the box. The Watt Star player scaffed his shot, which was going well wide, but some how hit one of the players, who was standing in an offside position, and into the net. The Silverknowes players surrounded the referee protesting the goal should be chopped off and from the resulting protesting, Savage was shown a straight red. A cruel result on Silverknowes who deserved their win only for some major decisions to go against them. FT 3-3 Team Mason, D.Manson, Savage, Dickson, Ste.Buckley, Hildersley, Mathieson(Wylie), Finlayson, Stu.Buckley, Taylor(Munro), Sc.Manson(Mounsey) |
