     WCC FC v Silverknowes Vale
  1-4
   25th August 2007 Saughton

Silverknowes started the day with a bare bones squad with just 12 fit players available to choose from. They enjoyed the early possesion and scored early on when Mathieson burst into the box only to be fouled. The referee only awarding a freekick on the edge of the box. The freekick was played short to Finlayson, who's first time shot took the keeper by surprise and palmed it into the bottom corner. They should have increased their lead shortly after, when Cunningham was through on the keeper, only to balloon the ball over the bar. Then again Cunningham brought a good save out of the keeper after good work from Mathieson on the left. WCC were restricted to long range efforts which were all sailing harmlessly high and wide. The tempo of the game was very high and the WCC players could not cope with this, as Stewart Manson was pulling the strings in the middle of the park. Shortly before the lead was increased, Mathieson missed an open goal when Cunningham was impeded in the box when he was about to slide the ball home, the ref played on and the ball broke kindly for Mathieson who fired past the post. The second goal was imminent. Stewart Manson played Mathieson in who then knocked it on to Cunningham, who showed great composure to take it to the keeper and then slide into the bottom corner. The third goal was not far behind when a long ball was played down the right, were Mathieson collected, he beat a WCC defender and hit a low shot into the corner, with the keeper a bit suspect. A good first half performance from Vale.

HT 0-3

The second half started with WCC trying to press the ball in the Silverknowes half, but were coming up against a resilent back four, who were excellent all game. The game broke into a mellee early in the second half, when handbags pushing and shoving broke out with the referee soon restoring order. Silverknowes were hitting on the break with Stewart Manson and Mathieson at the centre of most things creative. Cunningham should have added a fourth when great wing work from Stewart Manson cut the ball back for him, only to hit his shot over the bar. WCC did finally get in behind the Silverknowes back four only to find Mason, who pulled off a fine block when the striker should have scored. The fourth goal for Silverknowes was well worked with a huge slice of luck along the way also. Stewart Manson picked up the ball in the middle, he played it onto Cunnigham who played a one two with Matheison, he then tried to play in Mathieson in on goal but the defender blocked the pass, but fell right back to Cunningham feet, he then played another one two with Mathieson, before the ball broke kindly for Cunningham 10 yards out, who hit a scwaff of a left foot shot into the bottom corner of the net, deceiving the keeper, who was probably expecting a more powerful shot. Mintues form the end Mason had a great save when he dived to his left to play it out for a corner and then from the resulting corner WCC scored a good undeserving goal, when a WCC player right foot volleyed past Mason. A good high tempo performance from Silverknowes, who can now build on this.
