     Silverknowes Vale v Scottish Widows
        4-3
4rth August 2007 Jack Kane Centre

A hard fought battle in the first half summed up Silverknowes performance, who should have taken the lead as early as the first few seconds of the game. Kickoff was taken and the ball was played to Cunningham who fed in Mathieson, the striker burst into the left handside of the box and fired a shot which unfortunatley hit the outside of the post and to safety. Scottish Widows then had alot of possesion and managed to work some space for themselves down the flanks. Mason had to be alert as he saved a point blank header from the Widows striker early on. Widows then had a few other long range efforts but not really testing Mason again. Stuart Buckley and Stewart Manson were working tiredlesly in the middle of the park against the Widows three centre midfielders. Mathieson was getting frustrated with the lack of service, but against the wind and a packed midfield it was hard for Silverknowes to create anything. Widows took the lead from a freekick which rebounded off the bar, Savage went in to knock the rebound clear, but was muscled off the ball by a Widows player, who knocked the ball in with his head. Silverknowes equalised through a freekick also. Mathieson squaring to Stewart Manson on the edge of the box and the unmarked midfielder fired a first time shot into the net.

HT 1-1

The first 25 minutes of the second half was dominated by Silverknowes, who played some great passing football and created numerous chances. They took the lead early on as Stuart Buckley was fed in down the left, who knocked a great cross in for McGuinness to a score with almost his first touch after coming on as halftime sub. Silverknowes started to enjoy the match and Stewart Manson was involved in most things that were being created. Mathieson, McGuinness and Munro all went close, before Stuart Buckley hit a shot off the base of the post and wide. Totally against the run of play Widows equalised. A ball over the top of the Silverknowes defence was picked up by the Widows striker who managed to get into the box under close attention from Steven Buckley, who was adjusted to have clipped Spencer in the box, referee then pointing to the spot. Mason was unlucky not to have saved the penalty as he palmed the shot onto the inside of the post and in. Moments later Silverknowes were awarded a penalty of their own, as a shot in the Widows box hit off a defender elbow. Upstepped Stewart Manson to send the keep the wrong way, as he did against Cirty Limits the game before. Silverknowes should have increased the lead, when a ball was attempted to be crossed into the box, but again striking a defenders arm, harsh, but the referee awarding Silverknowes with their second penalty. Up stepped Mathieson, as Stewart Manson had just gone of injured, to take the penalty, but unfortunately scuffing it wide of the post. Silverknowes fourth goal came from another set peice.  A corner taken by Hildersley and McGuinness headering in for his second in the six yard box. Silverknowes were starting to tire in the last 10 minutes of the game and this showed, as Widows had plenty of possesion, but unable to create any decent chances. They did score a third just before the end, when the Silverknowes players kept backing off a Widows midfielder who then let fly from about 20 yards and sailed into the top left hand corner of the net, with Mason helpless. Another good performance from the boys, especially the first half an hour of the second half.
