         2-2
   18th August 2007 St.Augustines High School

A dissappointing result to what was otherwise a good performance from Silverknowes in their debut league game, who dominated the game for long spells. The game started brightly with Horler and Stewart Manson getting into the thick of things earlier on. Silverknowes found themselves with acres of room on the right hand for most of the first half and made good use of the possesion. Silverknowes nearly took the lead early on, when Cunningham let fly from 25yards only for the keeper to tip it onto the bar and over for what should have been corner. Then great work from Mathieson on the right, swung in a ball into the box, but it just would not fall for a Silverknowes player to have a shot. Then great determination from Horler who broke into the box, he got to the byline and then tried to catch the keeper out with a low shot to his near post, but was saved well. Silverknowes had one little scare when a freekick was swung in from the right and the Melville player headed for goal but Mason was alert to foil his attempt. Silverknowes then took the lead, when Horler switched play from the left and allowed Mathieson to break free on the right, he headed straight for goal and placed his shot into the bottom left hand corner. Melville equalised a few minutes later when another free kick caused bother in the Silverknowes box, this time a header in off the post. This seemed to spur Silverknowes on who were playing some great passing football which the Melville players were left chasing shadows. They eventually scored again when Cunningham and Stewart Manson played some neat passing between them before Cunningham slipped Stewart Manson in on goal, his left shot was parried by the goalie into Munro's path, who lashed into the net. Munro should have scored a second moments later, when a cross from the right evaded the defence but the on rushing Munro managed to screw his shot wide of the post.

HT 1-2

Silverknowes were still playing good football, but up against a sticky Melville defence in the second half. You could see the frustraion setting in early on in the second half with the play littered with stop start needless freekicks. Silverknowes tried to increase their lead, but just couldnt finish off some great chances. The Melville keeper had to be smart to tip a Stuart Buckley freekick wide of the post, before good determinatin from Scott Manson robbed the Melville full back, he then cut the ball back for McGuinness who slid his shot off the outside of the post. Silverknowes were starting to push the Melville players further and further back, when a loose ball was cleared from the right and it dropped between Stuart Buckley and Savage, the Melville player took control of the ball before beating Mason with a low drilled shot. Silverknowes were understandbly shocked by this, as they had controlled most of the game and now found themselves level. They almost found themselves behind moments later when a well struck freekick rebounded off the bar and from the rebound three Melville players were on top of Mason trying to prod it over the line. But safe hands from Mason ensured there was no breach. Silverknowes continued to push for the winner, which they would have thoroughly deserved, but it wasnt to be. A good performance, not helped by the early injury to Horler ,who was having a influential game upfront. We will play worst and win games this season. Just need to learn to bury teams when we are on top.
