     Granton Vale v Silverkonwes Vale
        4-3
11th August 2007 Wardie Playing Fields

A hard fought out battle between two sides that didnt want to lose the match. The early pressure came from Silverknowes, with Stewart Manson, Mathieson and Munro linking up well to create some openings on the left. Granton were being restricted to long range efforts until Silverknowes thought they had taken the lead. Finlayson played Mathieson in on goal and he unselfishly squared it to the free scoring Stewart Manson who sided footed it into the empty net, only to be wrongly chalked off for offside. Moments later Granton took the lead with a tame cross into the box.Dickson, Stuart Buckley and Mason all went for the ball, then leaving it to each other. The ball deflected off Buckleys shoulder and fell kindly for Hart to loop a header into the goal. This spurred Silverknowes on who then equalised with fine work from Munro on the left, his deep crossed eluded Delworth in goal and Finlayson was there at the back post to scramble it over the line. Silverknowes should then have taken the lead, when Mathieson was played through again, but the on rushing Delworth making Mathieson hurry his lob come shot which drifted narrowly wide. Mathieson taken a sore one in the process from the Granton goalkeeper. Granton then took the lead just before half time, when Pollock broker free on the right and drilled in a shot which beat Mason at his near post.

HT 2-1

Silverknowes got the second half off to a disaterous start when Granton broke into the box from the left after only a minute of the second half gone and placed a right foot shot into the top right hand corner. Pollock should then have made it 4-1 when he lobbed Mason after another defensive mixup but drifted wide. Silverknowes were obviously shaken by this as they made changes to the formation and personel. They started to find there feet and Stewart Manson and Finlayson were started controlling the midfield. Mathieson was also starting show what he can do, when he was moved to the right of midfield. He was causing the Granton left hand side all sorts of problems with his pace and quick thinking. Then in a an expolsive 3 minute spell Silverknowes equalised. The second goal was well worked, with Cunningham playing a one two with Stewart Manson and Mathieson, before sending Mathieson down the right, his cut back was missed by everyone except the on rushing Stewart Manson, who drilled it into the net. Game On! Granton were starting to show signs of breaking and Silverknowes could sense this. A quick free kick in the middle of the park was taken by the eagle eyed Stewart Manson, who put Mathieson clean through and his placed shot went under the body of Delworth. After that there looked liked there was only going to be one winner, with Horlor coming close with a header, when he should have scored after great play by Scott Manson on the right, then Stewart Manson was clean through on goal, but his shot was well blocked by Delworth, with his save rebounding off Manson and going safely behind for a goalkick. The game was eventually won by Granton in the final few minutes of the game, when against the run of play, a Granton striker managed to get into the box, were Horlor was adjudged to have pulled him back. Up stepped Sturgeon to fire Granton into the lead again. Another good second half performance from the guys with the defeat a hard one to take, as we had put a lot into the game where we might have even won.
