Silverknowes Vale v East Linton 3-2 29th September 2007 The Gyle Silverknowes decided on a few changes to the starting line up and formation ahead of this 1st round cup tie to freshen up the side and give others a chance. The decision seemed to pay dividends whith Silverknowes creating numerous chances in the opening 25 minutes. But to the amazement of Siverknowes they fell behind totally against the run of play. David Manson was caught out on the right and the East Linton midfielder cut the ball back into the box. Everyone missed it except the East Linton forward, who lashed past Mason. Silverknows continued to create chances but could not take them. Taylor headed back across goal for Henderson to head onto the bar, then the ball falling at Mounseys feet from 6 yards, but he somehow managed to put it over the bar, then Hildersley was picked out by great pass from Stewart Manson, only for him to take too many touches and let the chance escape him. Then Silverknowes were denied a stone wall penalty when the impressive Scott Manson was sived down in the box when trying to shield the ball out for a corner. Silverknowes did eventually score though through debutant Alex Taylor. The ball was swung across from the right and a sweet left foot volley from Taylor into the bottom corner. Mason was a virtual spectator for the first half, but had to be lively when some slack passing at the back allowed the East Linton forward through, only for Mason to block the shot. Moments later though, Mason undone all his good work, when dropping the ball at the East Linton forwards feet, when there seemed no danger, the forward composed himself, before rolling the ball into an empty net. The half time whistle came and Silverknowes went in a half time in disbelief that they were trailling after dominating for the whole half. HT 1-2 The second half was more of the same as the first half, with Stewart Manson running the game from the middle of the park. Mathieson was introduced early in the second half and he gave the right back a torid time with his power running. He also came close a couple of times with long range efforts, but they were too close to the keeper to cause problems. Silverknowes then missed another guilt edge chance when the ball fell to Taylor 4 yards out, but he scuffed his shot over. Silverknowes did eventually equalise again through David Manson. The ball broke to him on the edge of the box, he took a touch to steady himself before smashing a low shot past the goalkeeper. Silverknowes then took the lead, when a corner from the right was headed into the goal by Scott Manson via a deflection. He then should have added a fourth seconds later when sent through on goal, but he hit his shot too near the keeper, and was palmed wide. Mathieson was then sent through on goal, only for his lob come shot to drift wide. A good performance by Silvernowes, with Mason a spectator for most of the game, but again unable to finish off teams when on top.
